Paintings that Express

Painting is a method of self expression. For some, it is just a hobby; for others, it is a way of life. In the world of art, specifically painting, people do become famous. Artists can make a decent living out of marketing their paintings. Nevertheless, painting is, first and foremost, not intended to achieve world acclaim. Rather, it is intended to effectively express oneself through the application of paints, colours, pigments, and other medium on a surface such as paper and canvas.

The artist uses his art materials to capture a scenery, drama, event, or look that he wants to be displayed on his painting. Each stroke of the brush, each dab of the paint, and each minute spent on the artwork becomes the artist's way to tell the world a story. At times, the tale is as obvious as a woman sitting for a self-portrait. At times, the tale is as complex as layers and splatters of paint criss-crossing on the canvas. Some paintings convey a clear message, others vague. It may be difficult to empathise with the artist, to understand his emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental state at the time when he was making the painting. However, the audience has to prepare themselves to critique a painting and decide personally whether it is a work of art or a piece of junk.
