ROME
–
‘The Eternal City’
It
was said that “all roads lead to Rome”. Judging from the mayhem of
traffic in the city, it certainly still feels like that. But amidst the
noise and haste the huge presence of the Vatican serves to command a
stillness like the eye in a storm. The ruins of Ancient Rome struggle to
compete for attention; and almost appear to be growing back through the
city everywhere, like weeds in a garden, refusing to be buried. The
power struggle that has been Rome for the last 30 centuries continues to
provide the wealth of images that Chris drew upon in his sketchbook for
his exhibition of paintings in 2002 some of which are featured below.
