COTSWOLD
PAINTINGS BY LOCAL ARTIST CHRIS FOTHERGILL.
"I usually
note with a smile, as I walk the dog each morning around the Northleach
Valley, how the weather has once again confounded the daily radio
forecast. It is well known locally that the Cotswold Hills seem to have
their own micro-climate, but to me it is just another example of how
this area seems to exist in a world of its own. People greet each other
in the street, and the sense of community is very real. Its no wonder
that so many tourists visit the area, nostalgic for a lost way of life,
as well as for the natural beauty of the countryside."
Chris
has been painting views of the Cotswolds since 1988 when the Gallery
first opened. His work is reproduced by Judges of Hastings into a
popular 'Cotswold Watercolour
Calendar' in addition to a selection of greetings cards and
notelets depicting Cotswold views - sold in shops throughout
Gloucestershire and beyond.
The
vernacular architecture of the Cotswolds, from cottages with mullioned
windows and honey-coloured stonework, to the splendour of the fine
wool-churches, provide plenty of inspiration for Chris to create
his watercolour paintings. Whilst most paintings are sold at exhibition,
he also keeps a selection of
original watercolour paintings for sale at the Gallery in
addition to his house commission and architectural views work.
